TEXAS HOLD’EM

Texas Hold’em first came to Las Vegas in 1967 from a group of Texan gamblers and card players. Originally the game was only played in the Golden Nugget Casino, located on Fremont Street, for the first few years. It is now easily the most popular form of poker in the world and is widely available to play on the internet, in your local casino or even in your local pub! Texas Hold’em poker games also regularly appear on the television in many different countries.

The aim of Texas Hold’em is to make the best five card hand out of the seven cards available to you.

HOW TO PLAY TEXAS HOLD’EM IN 10 EASY STEPS…

  1. Every player gets dealt two cards face down by the ‘Dealer’. These are dealt one at a time in a clockwise fashion starting with the small blind.
  2. Before the hand starts there is a ‘Dealer’ and a small blind and big blind which are to the immediate left of the dealer.
  3. The player to the left of the big blind acts first and can either fold, call or raise.
  4. Every player takes it in turns to act until all players remaining in the hand have matched the biggest bet.
  5. Three cards are then dealt in the middle of the table face up, these are called the ‘Flop’.
  6. The player to the left of the dealer acts first and has the option to check or bet. The action again moves clockwise until all remaining players have matched the biggest bet.
  7. The next card to be dealt is the ‘Turn’ which is the fourth card to be dealt face up.
  8. The action again starts with the player to the left of the dealer and has the option to bet or check. The action again moves clockwise until all remaining players have matched the biggest bet.
  9. The final card to be dealt face up is called the ‘River’, this card is the fifth card to be face up making seven cards in total when including your two cards face down.
  10. The player to the left of the dealer acts first and has the option to check or bet. The action again moves clockwise until all remaining players have matched the biggest bet. Once finished every player turns their cards over and the player with the best hand wins.
